If you’ve experienced or witnessed a frightening event, it can trigger a mental health condition called post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD. PTSD can cause a variety of symptoms, including uncontrollable thoughts about the event, extreme anxiety, flashbacks, and nightmares. It is relatively common among veterans, affecting between 10% and 30% of them. Fortunately, post-traumatic stress disorder can be treated.
